Maui - Makena - Big Beach Excursion
Makena - Big Beach Maui - also known as OmeloaAloha,
We were out of the office today to actively scope the beach for you folks who have not yet made it to Maui - or have made it to Maui and not scoped the beaches.
Makenas' Big Beach(Omeloa) is at the very south end of Wailea - which is at teh very south end of Kihei - which happens to be the South of Maui!
Well I haven't visited this beach in a while and it lived up to it's awe inspiring reputation as one of the most amazing beaches to visit in Hawaii. The water itself was crystal and I mean crystal clear. I could see the ocean floor from most any where. The waves were very mellow today and not the body slamming forces of nature they can sometimes be. It was tame enough to be swimming along side my 5 and 8 year olds.
Of course where there is Big Beach(Omeloa) there is always Little Beach.(Pu'u 'Ola'i Crater) I do suggest that you proceed with caution over the rock and expect a little (or a lot) of nudity. Not many families on this side but a great spot for adults who are intent on that all over tan!
You are able to get cell phone connection out there - not that you want too - but it did enable me to tweet via TweetCall.com to my TwittDeal Twitter account to keep you updated on our Makena Excursion!
As always you are encouraged to slap on the sunscreen and "don" the hat and take lots of water! Have a lot of fun as we did and enjoy your Maui Vacation!

Maui Travel Tips: 3 Steps to Sunburn and Hydration Protection!
You arrive on Maui and all you want to do is "Get to the Beach!" Cold rainy days are left far behind as you throw your belongings at the room and don your fave suit and rush out the door toward sandy freedom! "It's too cloudy or late in the day, all I need is a towel.

Step 1:
Cover all exposed body parts with a sunscreen your skin tolerates. Should this be to arduous you can also wear light sun protective clothing - although if you plan on swimming this is not practical. Be sure your sunscreen protects for UVA & UVB rays and is waterproof if you are swimming.
Step 2:
Grab a HAT! This is so easy and protects not only your neck and face but yes "Your Scalp". Quite often we totally forget that the top of our heads are extremely vulnerable to sun exposure only because we can't see the top of our heads!
Step 3:
H2O/Water - Grab a bottle of this substance before you expose yourself to the elements no matter what. Your body is 95% water and relies on being constantly replenished especially when you are outside in the sun, wind and humid weather.
The 5 mins extra and the quick trip to the ABC store for water - (if you didn't already on the way to your accomodations!) will save you huge headaches toward sunset. Heat exhaustion and Dehydration can put a real damper on your Maui Vacation. So Sunscreen, Hat and Water before you leave for any excursion on Maui!
